I am truly honored to be partnering with Premier Surfaces to bring you this sponsored post. Not only do we want pretty countertops but we want them to stay clean. You can keep them looking clean and sanitized even easier by using my DIY All-Purpose Countertop Cleaner.
Heart of the Home
More time is spent in the kitchen than any other room in the home. So, choosing the right kitchen countertop is very important because you will be using this surface the most.
For most people, our kitchens are the hub of our lives at home. We tend to gather there to talk, to eat, to do most things on a regular basis. We use ours for crafts, to cook together, to have family meetings.
At holiday gatherings, the most time (at least in our case) is spent in the kitchen. Not only because I am preparing food, but because there is just something comfortable and familiar about the kitchen.
In my personal situation, I know that I gravitate to the kitchen because of the feeling of “home” I feel there. I can’t tell you how many memories I have of being in the kitchen with my mom or my grandmothers as they cooked and baked. It’s a comfortable feeling. The smells of the kitchen also bring up these memories. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels this when we are drawn to be in the kitchen.
We All Want Clean Counters
No matter where you live or how much space you have, keeping your counters clean and looking great is a priority. I live in a 1880’s farmhouse that had our kitchen added in the early 1970’s. We have the worst laminate color known to man, but even if it’s ugly unique, I need to have it clean and looking it’s best.
Finding a countertop that suits your personal taste can be daunting, to say the least. Premier Surfaces has a gorgeous selection of countertops that has something for everyone. Their Natural Stone Countertops are absolutely gorgeous. Whether you are looking for granite, marble, soapstone, or another surface, you will find their selection amazing and inspiring.

Keeping Counters Clean
Over time, the amount of cooking that happens in our homes has declined. There are still a few who cook a lot in their kitchens (like me) but there are more like my sister who just do not have the time to do so. Our lives have gotten almost busier than we can handle.
I’ll tell you one of the easiest ways to make sure that your counters stay clean and looking clean daily.
Clearing the Clutter
The less that you have to store on your countertops the better. Having the space clear of excess gives the illusion of it being even cleaner. Which makes choosing a counter that you love even more important.
The large expanse of counter has to be a material and pattern that you love. You look at it daily. Even if we are trending away from cooking in our kitchens, it will always been (in my opinion) the heart of our home.
Our kitchen is a part of our Great Room. Which means that it is visible even as we all gather to watch television or visit or play games each evening.
Besides keeping it clear of clutter, I make sure that the counters are wiped clean each and every day. Even if I do not cook or bake on a specific day, I wipe it down just to make sure that it is ready for us any time we do use our kitchen counters.
DIY All-Purpose Countertop Cleaner
Not only does my DIY All-Purpose Countertop Cleaner keep your counters looking clean, but it is also antiseptic. It disinfects as it cleans, making sure that your surface is clean enough to eat off of.
You may alter your choice of oils to your personal scent preferences (kind of how are inclined to choose your countertops). Just pick from the oils listed in the recipe to find what you like the best.
Or even make a mixture of your choice of oils in order to make it totally your own!
DIY All-Purpose Countertop Cleaner
Not only does this mixture clean, but the essential oils disinfect and provide a naturally light fragrance.
- 1 tsp antiseptic essential oil (i.e. thyme, wild orange, lemongrass, rose, clove, eucalyptus, cinnamon, rosemary, birch, lavender or tea tree)
- 1 tsp washing soda
- 2 tsp borax
- 1/2 tsp liquid castile soap
- 2 cups hot water
Combine the ingredients in a glass spray bottle. Shake to dissolve and blend the ingredients.
To use: I like to spray this onto a surface and then let it sit for 15 minutes (approximately) before I wipe it up with a rag in order to give the oil’s antiseptic qualities time to work properly.
Clove and Cinnamon Holiday Cleaner
Use 1/2 tsp each clove and cinnamon oils.
Lightly Lavender Antiseptic Spray
Use 1 tsp lavender essential oil.
Sweet Orange Kitchen Spray
Use 1 tsp wild orange essential oil.
DIY All-Purpose Countertop Cleaner Storage
The key to making and storing this DIY all-purpose countertop cleaner is using glass storage containers. Over time, essential oils will break down plastic containers. I love my glass spray bottles. I make all of my own cleaners, having learned how many chemicals are in all of the store-bought cleaners.
Having great looking counters that you love to care for and keep cleared off and clean will help you feel so much better about your home.
