I love decorating our mantel. I especially love that I made this reversible fall/winter sign for a quick and easy change.
We are lucky to have an amazing fireplace. It’s just so cozy when the Redneck builds me a fire on a crisp fall evening. And it makes the living area one of the warmest areas in the house. It’s so nice to keep the common area (our great room) warm so that we can all gather and be together.
Decorating the mantel is one of my favorite things. We don’t do a Christmas tree. I know… it’s kind of sad. I just get tired of having to redecorate it and pick it up when our three cats go haywire and destroy it.
So decorating the mantel it is.
This year, I realized that some of the store-bought signs were horrible. Ok, honestly, the one that I repurposed may have been the ex-wife’s. *shrug* I don’t really care but I need to get rid of these horribly ugly things that are so not my taste. You could tell that this one was a WalMart special. Not at all in line with my “industrial farmhouse” taste.
So I stripped it.
Taking the front off is no different than stripping wallpaper. I just scored it, soaked it with a damp washcloth, and scraped off as much of the decal as I could. My mouse sander took the rest of the adhesive off.
I then just painted both sides to the colors I wanted for my signs, leaving the frame a bare wood for the Christmas side.
Fall is for Flannel
I’m a flannel kind of girl. My typical wardrobe is jeans, a t-shirt, and a flannel shirt. It makes me happy and comfortable. I call it “country chic”. LOL
I created the graphic for this side and cut it with my Cricut. I then centered it and applied it to the wood sign.
Christmas Tree Farm
I happened across an amazing Christmas Tree Farm graphic over at The Girl Creative. It’s absolutely adorable and I just KNEW that this is what I had to have for my Christmas side.
After all of the vinyl was applied, I coated both sides with a couple of coats of clear gloss polyurethane just for protection and a glossier look. This step is completely up to you. You can skip it or use a matte protectant instead if you like.
I hope you love this sign like I do and attempt to make your own. This would also make a great gift idea for the holidays.
I would love to see what you do with these cut files! Make sure you drop me a note with a link or image so I can see YOUR creations!
