Housekeeping can change your life. Really! Here are 6 unexpected ways that housekeeping can change your life.
Ever wonder why you even bother cleaning your house? Think that the only reason is that you just feel like it’s an obligation? Housework seems like one area that is the easiest to overlook. You may feel that no one notices if it’s clean or dirty anyhow so why bother. It’s easy to avoid company, and other than outsiders visiting, who really cares if the sheets are washed or the tub is scrubbed?
Living in a disaster area may be a choice, but it says a lot about your lack of self-respect and motivation.
Coming home to a clean home can do wonders for your emotional well-being. It is empowering to know that you have control over your home. This is especially true when you have a job or other aspects of your life that you have absolutely no control over. Knowing that the space that is supposed to be your sanctuary is clean and organized and comfortable gives you a sense of not only accomplishment but the power that you are in control of your surroundings.
Housework is about saving time and money.
If you can find everything you need in the morning on your way out the door quickly, you have just saved yourself time.
Say you aren’t the type to make a grocery list. You go to the store, fill your cart and spend over $100. At the end of the week, you realize that you have to throw away a few things that have gone bad because you didn’t use them before they went bad. You just wasted money.
Having routines and keeping things orderly is key to making housekeeping work in your favor. You don’t waste things or have to repurchase things you lose. Come on, be honest. How many pairs of scissors do you own because you can never find a pair when you need them?
Housework can also be another way to help the environment. Choose products that are environmentally friendly and then use them.
Regularly vacuum your carpets to extend its lifetime and then keeping it out of the landfill. Maintaining your appliances keeps you from having to purchase new. Proper maintenance can also save you money as they are more efficient when they are functioning well.
Six Unexpected Ways Housekeeping Will Change your Life
1. Keeping you happier
Keeping your home clean just makes you feel better. It reduces stress. How many times have you looked over at the pile of laundry or dishes and felt the stress of it all? By staying on top of these things, you can find more joy in time with your family. You won’t be distracted by the list of things that need to be done. You can just focus on your family and enjoy your time with them.
2. Saving you time
Staying on top of basic housekeeping tasks will save you a ton of time in the long run. Start by just doing the dishes as you cook, or just one load of laundry per day. Come the weekend, your normal entire day of cleaning will only be a few general tasks, not the mountain of time you are used to giving up. So you can plan to take the kids to the park, or a date with your partner without having to worry about what needs to be done at home.
3. Saving you money
I was raised with the mantra of, “Take care of your things so you don’t have to purchase them again.” This goes for your home too. By taking care of your carpets regularly, they will last longer. By making sure to do the dishes as you dirty them, you won’t have to worry about ruining a pot or pan and needing to purchase another. Buy your things once, and take good care of them. You will be amazed at how much longer you can wait to replace things.
4. Keeping you on task
We’ve all done it. We started to clean one area of the house and realized that there was a pile of paper that needed sorted or a load of laundry needed to be done. By staying on top of these things little by little, you won’t encounter so many distractions. And when you can stay focused, you get more done.
5. Helping the Environment
You know those harsh chemicals you have to use to get your tub clean when it gets out of control? Or to clear a drain that has gotten really gross? Staying on top of these things and using common household products to prevent it can save you tons of money. Have you seen the chemical list a bottle of drain opener has?? Instead of having to deal with a clog, when you clean your shower or sink, simply sprinkle some baking soda into the drain and slowly add white vinegar. It will keep your drains clear and smelling way better.
6. Preserving your investments.
I’ve touched on this above when talking about caring for your carpets. But so many other things, like your appliances and bed sheets and more, last so much longer with regular maintenance and care. A big one is your dryer. Making sure to clean out all of the lint in your dryer not only promotes its longevity but keeps it running more efficiently. At least once a year, use a dryer cleaning attachment like this one to vacuum out all of the escaped lint. This is also important for your home and family’s safety as it helps reduce the risk of a dryer fire.
